A Bulging Disc Procedure at Laser Spine Institute Has Many Advantages

A Bulging Disc Procedure at Laser Spine Institute Has Many Advantages

If you suffer from a bulging disc and conservative treatments like physical therapy, massage, and medication haven’t improved your condition, a bulging disc procedure from Laser Spine Institute (LSI) may be able to help. We offer a procedure called a percutaneous endoscopic discectomy which can relieve the nerve compression that is causing pain in your back or neck. This is achieved by carefully removing the portion of spinal disc that has bulged out of place and into the spinal canal.

Here’s how our bulging disc procedure works:

  • The patient is administered a deep IV sedative, and the affected area of the back or neck is numbed with a local anesthesia.
  • A small incision is made in the back or neck, and a series of nesting tubes is inserted into the opening, gradually pushing aside muscle and other tissue to access the bulging disc site.
  • The largest tube is left in place, and the others are removed. Small tools, including a laser, a camera and a light are fed through the tube.
  • The surgeon removes the troublesome portion of bulging disc while using the light and camera to guide his actions.
  • The tools and tube are removed, and the incision is closed.

The patient heads back to their hotel or residence after the procedure and returns to LSI over the next few days for follow-up care. Because the procedure is so gentle on the body, the recovery is generally quick, and there is rarely a large quantity of scar tissue that forms.

If you’d like more information about this bulging disc procedure, contact LSI today. We’ll review your MRI or CT scan and let you know if we can help.
